How to Spend Christmas and New Year in Avoriaz
Avoriaz is gearing up for Christmas and it looks like a real winter wonderland up here, complete with lots of snow, sparkling lights and a jovial atmosphere. If you’re visiting Avoriaz for Christmas and New Year week, we hope you’re feeling festive, because there’s so much to see and do that you’ll be spoilt for choice. Here’s our pick of the best bits, for everyone from families with young kids to groups of friends. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
Avoriaz Christmas Village
If you’re in Avoriaz with kids this Christmas the resort is putting on some unforgettable festive experiences for children. From sweet treats to big parades, there’s something on every day for the little ones in your life. Join the elves outside the Avoriaz Office de Tourisme for a selection of delicious sweet treats, meet Santa before he heads off on his Christmas delivery rounds, race on sledges and win prizes… the list goes on!

The big day is Christmas Eve, where you can watch a fantastic torchlit descent from the local ESF ski and snowboard instructors. They’ll ski down the slopes of Arare holding flaming torches after dark, painting a huge line of light across the mountain, while you watch with a hot chocolate or mulled wine. Then, shortly afterwards, it’s time for the Christmas show, complete with lights, sounds and fireworks, where Father Christmas is the guest of honour. This one is great for folks of all ages, not just the little ones!
The fun starts again on Christmas day when the Christmas parade makes its way through the streets of Avoriaz to see Santa off in style as he goes back to Lapland to start work on next year’s big event.

Food and Drink
If you’re not spending Christmas with the family but with a group of friends or your significant other, Avoriaz offers incredible nights out and dining experiences in the heart of the mountains. Party the night away at The Place, which will be holding a HUGE Christmas party, starting on Christmas Eve, complete with Christmassy and not so Christmassy music, dancing and good times all night long.
If you want to take it a little easier with some classy Christmas Eve drinks or an afternoon aperitif before your Chirstmas dinner, you'll love the selection of delicious cocktails and swanky tapas at the Lounge Roc. In fact, the bar has just restarted its mega popular cabaret nights for the winter and trust us, they make for an absolutely sectacular night out.
Fun and Games
It wouldn’t be Christmas without a little Alpine bowling. That’s right, head down to the newly renovated Strike Roc and get in a few games with your buddies this festive season. The Strike Roc also has pool tables and a selection of arcade games to help you get into the festive competitive spirit. Plus, it’ll be showing all the best sports on the big screen throughout the holidays and beyond.
And of course, let's not forget the reason most of us are here: skiing and snowboarding! We had an amazing start to the season this year, and there's more snow on the way during Christmas week, so whether you're a fan of the pistes, powder or snow parks, the conditions are set to be fantastic for all three this festive period.
And What About New Year?
Avoriaz also offers some fantastic New Year’s Eve celebrations, the main event being New Year’s Eve with Fun Radio, where DJs from the popular French radio station set up camp in the resort centre and see you into the new year in style. Expect lots of music, an amazing atmosphere and of course, a spectacular fireworks display at midnight.
